I’ve been researching next-of-kin procedures and I wonder how things work in international cases. For example, if someone living in the U.S. with no immediate family here passes away but they were originaly from the UK.. how would the authorities go about locating next of kin abroad? Are there specific international systems or agreements in place or would services in the UK be responsible for tracking down relatives?

I see now that in the UK there are companies that specialize in tracing next of kin but how does that work across borders? Does anyone have experience with this or know more about how it’s handled today?
